Serving legal process in the Italian Republic

Italy ratified the Hague Service Convention in 1982 and has lodged no objection to any of the Article 10 alternative channels, giving requesting parties genuine flexibility. Italy's Central Authority is the Ufficio Unico degli Ufficiali Giudiziari at the Corte d'Appello di Roma (the unified bailiff office at the Rome Court of Appeal), which forwards incoming requests to the local bailiff office at the Tribunale or Corte di Appello nearest the defendant. All documents served through the Central Authority must be translated into Italian; there is no government fee for this channel.

Central Authority Service via Local Ufficiale Giudiziario

We submit the request to the Ufficio Unico degli Ufficiali Giudiziari in Rome, which routes it to the local bailiff office at the Tribunale or Corte di Appello covering the defendant's location for execution under Article 5.

02

Certified Italian Translation

Article 5(3) requires documents served through the Central Authority to be translated into Italian. We prepare certified translations to keep filings from being delayed or rejected on this basis.

Article 10 Alternative Channels

Because Italy has not objected to Article 10(a), (b), or (c), postal service and direct service by competent local officials remain valid options where appropriate for the case, offering a potentially faster path than the formal Central Authority channel.
